In physics, we rely much less on illustrations, but we heavily use quantitative graphs. Reading papers from the ~1950s, I'm struck by the quality and legibility of draftsman-drawn plots, compared to so many of today's computer generated plots.

I got a 1200-baud modem for my 13th birthday. Quickly discovered Compu$erve was not in a 13-year-old's budget. Then discovered the BBSs.

I read in "The Secret Life of Groceries" that scammy "get your CDL" training organizations push folks into the "owner-operator" model where you earn subsistence wages at best and from which it is very hard to ever break out of.

Bondi purports to appoint an “emergency police commissioner” and orders specific DC policy on sanctuary laws to be deleted from police guidance.

I’m no expert, but this seems illegal under the Home Rule Act, which says only that the President may direct DC police to “provide services.”

In an urban setting, parks are for people, and so much of dcs parkland is terrible. Underprogrammed, rarely used. Barnard hill and Ft. Bunker hill come to mind.

The NCAA has strict rules about the sort of degree programs that college athletes can be in--no trade education, for example. The draw to keep playing (or be a fan of) a school sport probably contributes to persistence of classical liberal education.

Thanks! This must be the sort of detail in the proprietary scoring manual you’ve mentioned from time to time. It makes sense but to me at least it isn’t obvious.

In the reconstruction, Abel is second out so Baker and Charlie are on 2B and 1B when Daniel hits to the third baseman. Without the E5 can we assume a putout to end the inning, or can we not assume any play on any runner?
