There are tons of tutorials for how to do the quilting yourself , they will just be treated separately from the piecing and it is its own stylistic decision you’ll have to make yourself as well. Straight line quilting is very doable on a domestic but it is a bit of a workout. Quilts are heavy!

As a garment sewist, I was incredibly confused when my first quilting pattern didn’t have any information (or even suggestions!) on how to quilt the damn thing. And it was targeted at beginners!

Quilting is two separate steps: piecing the top, and quilting the top, center, and back together. Most patterns will only be guides for piecing. You can do the quilting on a domestic machine (with a walking foot) but you can also pay someone with a bigger machine to do it for you.

It will almost certainly be our current state senator, who is an Evil Gay and looks so well-preserved for his age he might have a portrait in his attic.

It was affordable for me when I was working part time in after school programs! Back then it was probably cheaper than Joanns.

Stone Mountain and Daughter isn’t cheap but they have a decent website and the quality is great. But if she’s also in Portland I loved Mill End in Milwaukee when I lived there a decade ago.

Knits are my side project, my current obsession is Hard Pants. I love telling people that pants aren’t as difficult as they think (especially now that current styles are less fitted in the hips). But that still sounds non-overlapping to me haha

Like the original post says, though, I’m anticipating the costs of being choosy going up considerably very soon. Luckily I was already planning on sewing down my stash this year…

I am the exact opposite! My local makerspace has a serger and a coverstitch and I am choosy about my knit fabric. I can crank out a half dozen shirts in ~half a day and they won’t have quite the same finishing as store bought but they’ll be close. Respect to all bra-sewers, just couldn’t be me!

Sewing saves you money if you have expensive taste, but only once you’ve reached a certain level of skill. Maybe after 15 years I can claim to be breaking even??? I still don’t want to make my own bras though.

As a former resident, I accept the take that there is broadly enough housing, but most of it was kind of awful! Poorly made when it was built and poorly maintained. And all of the more central neighborhoods could benefit from higher density to make the city even a tiny bit less car-dependent.

Tldr, remain skeptical, every rando is the game theory guy until proven otherwise

Also trials get cancelled all the time for any number of reasons and the people who run them are not always the best communicators, and my informed guess is that most drug trials are actually funded by private companies by the time they’re being offered to patients.

The shit currently getting fucked with at the NIH is way less sensational than someone’s treatment going away, but the fact that they are going ctrl+f “diversity” through every funding opportunity is very bad in its own right

I had no idea that anyone ever had the idea that they could adapt Middlemarch for the screen???? Hard to imagine, it is such a quintessential Novel to me.
