i finished a first draft of this today 😇

They make out like that for a while, the rest of the world fading into the background. Harua finally gives into the temptation to lick up the side of Nicholas’s neck, the taste of sweat salty and intoxicating on his tongue. He bites Nicholas’s earlobe, tugging gently with his teeth, and he swears he can hear Nicholas whimper, even though it’s impossible over the music.

“We didn’t even do anything that actually had summer vibes,” he whined. “Aren’t there beaches near Tokyo? I’ve never been to one.”

“Pretty sure there are. Do you wanna go?” Nicholas said. “Clear your schedule tomorrow and I’ll take you.”

“Wait. Tomorrow?” Harua echoed in mild disbelief.

Nicholas grinned at him. “Yeah, why not? We can do whatever we want.”

Harua's tomorrow was already reserved for Nicholas, anyway. But it's different to be on this train platform in the early morning, his TOPIK books replaced by beach gear in his backpack, snacks from the convenience store across the street from the Enoden station shoved in on top. It feels like an event. Like a memory waiting to be made.

Soft sand squishes between Yudai’s toes, his shoes dangling from one hand as he walks along the beach. Next to him, Fuma is matching him step for step, his own shoes in hand. It’s late enough that the beach is deserted save for them and the breeze is a little chilly, the warmth and crowds of the afternoon long gone. There are no cameras or staff or other boys around. Just Yudai, Fuma, and the moon reflecting off the ocean waves.

Heeseung leans in close, and they duck their heads together so they can both see as the TikTok loops. It’s objectively stupid—[xx]—but Heeseung can’t help bursting out into laughter again when xxxx. K laughs, too, the bond singing with their pure joy and amusement.

“No, again,” K says when Heeseung goes to pull the phone away. They laugh even harder this time, feeding off each other. K hiccups with laughter, and Heeseung snorts, and they crack up all over again. They slump against each other, breathless with it.

I'm taking a sledgehammer to some writer's block lately but here's an excerpt from a scene i was SO hype to write and excited when it turned out how i envisioned it #wipwednesday

Heeseung stared, unable to make himself move or speak. It was too simple, what Jungwon thought, and yet exactly the problem. Had he been that obvious? Did everyone know? Should Heeseung stop this rumour here, tell him absolutely not? Of course he should. But God, he didn’t want to.

Jungwon’s face softened. “You can tell me, hyung.”

Heeseung crumpled. “Yeah,” he admitted, pulling his hands out of Jungwon’s and taking a step back. “Yeah, it… it was so…” He scrubbed a hand over his face and looked away. “I’m so fucking stupid.”

“Hyung, no,” Jungwon said, reaching for Heeseung’s hand again. Heeseung let him take it without looking up at him. “You’re not. You can’t help how you feel. I sometimes…” He took a deep breath, the shakiness audible. “I feel like that about boys, too. So if you can’t be leader because of that, then neither can I.”

Yudai wonders what it would have been like to meet Heeseung somewhere else. Earlier, maybe, when he was training in LA. In a different life, on a university campus. In a coffee shop before their boring office jobs, accidentally taking each other’s drinks. Somewhere where this intense bond would take years to build, where their attraction could play out without the drama and pressure of I-LAND.

The moment stretches out, a million emotions suspended in the air between them, until Yudai can’t take it anymore. He buries his face in Heeseung’s shoulder and pulls him close. Heeseung wraps his arms around Yudai and holds him just as hard.

Yudai wouldn’t trade this reality for another one, not really. Nothing else could ever feel like this.

But it’s also…a really good idea. Yudai already feels a weird pull toward Heeseung all the time—probably jealousy, even though Yudai is at least as talented as him, if not more so. They’re the obvious frontrunners of all the contestants Yudai knows will be on the show. Yudai’s never thought about it before, but the likelihood that the company would soulbond them before debut must be pretty high.

“Are you saying we should soulbond?” Yudai asks, just to be sure.

Heeseung shrugs. “Just that it would be cool if we could,” he deflects.

“But we can,” Yudai says. “There are private clinics, aren't there? We’re adults. The company can’t stop us.”

Heeseung’s eyebrows go up in surprise. “Really?”

“Yes, if you're serious,” Yudai says, more excited the more he thinks about it. “It’ll be perfect. You said it yourself, it’s good for dancing, right?”

Heeseung nods, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. “You really think so?”

“Yeah!” Yudai repeats. “What, did you think I would say no?”

Heeseung shrugs. “Maybe. It’s a big commitment. I’ve never heard of anyone reversing a soulbond, have you?”

Yudai hesitates, but only for a second. He’s willing to do anything to give himself an advantage. “No, but we won’t have to worry about that,” he says confidently. “We’re clearly going to debut together, so it’s just getting ahead of the game.”

Heeseung nods eagerly. “When should we do it?”
