Oh, I wrote a whole book about why we don’t act about climate change! In a nutshell, it is a combination of psychological distance and solution aversion. It is not, as so many assume, lack of worry. Here’s a talk where I summarize it, and the book is called “Saving Us”

Exactly. I understand that obesity might be a lifelong condition that requires treatment, but I worry if people will have continued access to the medication for such a long time (it costs a lot) and what happens if they are on and off.

And I am still not confident of what happens after weight loss. There is this whole discussion of costs and having to use these drugs permanently that I'm not very optimistic.

100% agree with all you said. It's one more thing that individualize all the responsibility of a condition that is clearly systemic.

Really, I think Lothaire's book can be mostly described as unexpected, just as he describes Ellie all the time. I loved it, I think this is why it is so funny and compelling. #romancelandia
