Hello! New father here who loves movies, video games, books, and writing creative fiction.
The countdown has ended! My top ten movies of 2024. This was another great year for movies. I loved how Furiosa expanded the Fury Road end of the Mad Max world. Dune Part Two was the explosive ending Part One perfectly laid out. Saturday Night nailed the balance of tension and comedy. Cont. #Filmsky

To 2023. The Barbenheimer summer was one to remember. So many great moments from "I'm just Ken" to a D&D movie that was deceptively amazing. John Wick came to a glorious end, and Nicolas Cage gave an underappreciated performance in Dream Scenario. The great post-covid era continues. #Filmsky

2022 was a top year for me. Everything Everywhere All at Once was such a wacky yet powerful movie. Loved the new take on Batman. Maverick delivered, and a host of surprise lower budget movies. The twists in Barbarian... Wow. The Menu joined my yearly rotation of rewatches. #Filmsky

What a relief 2021 was after theaters were closed for so long. Dune was excellent, Daniel Craig's Bond sendoff was top notch. Spider-Man: No Way Home was such fun, and I still don't know how The Matrix Resurrections was greenlit but I'm glad it was! #Filmsky

2020. This was a year that for a work from home introvert, I mostly enjoyed my time staying at home. Except... for movie theaters closing. So my list is only a top five, and ironically enough my favorite movie of the year I didn't get to see in theaters, Palm Springs. #Filmsky

2019 was an amazing year for movies. So much so that I would have been pleased with either Parasite or 1917 winning best picture. Then there was Knives Out and Ready or Not, two movies that I come back to on the regular. What a year before the pandemic shut things down. #Filmsky

I liked 2018 for offering lots of surprises, Bad Times at the El Royale is an excellent ensemble cast of a film with a unique story structure, Spider-Verse swung for the animation fences, and Searching used the fixed web camera cinematography to pack an emotional punch. Another great year. #Filmsky

Whoops I missed yesterday, so a double post today! 2017 was a great year. Blade Runner 2049 swaps with Fury Road as my favorite movie of all time. Yet, this year also had the best comic book movie with Logan, and the misunderstood Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Great year for movies. #Filmsky

2016 had some good variety of the movies I enjoyed. Sci-fi was top of the top again with Arrival and Rogue One, but then there were comedies, thrillers, and drama. I don't necessarily return to a lot of these movies but any of them would be great for a rewatch. #Filmsky

2015 was a great year for movies. One of my favorite movies of all time came out in Mad Max Fury Road. The Martian has become a yearly rewatch since release, and the Mission: Impossible franchise took a major step forward with Rogue Nation. Great year. #Filmsky

I really liked the movies that came out in 2014, Edge of Tomorrow is a yearly watch for me. Several great franchise entries like The Winter Soldier and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Then you had franchise starters with Guardians, John Wick, Godzilla. Good stuff. #Filmsky

2013 was a challenging year for me to compile a top ten list. It did have the excellent Prisoners and Snowpiercer. Yet the rest was a bit more challenging between movies that are more of a guilty pleasure watch or critically acclaimed ones that I could appreciate more than enjoy. #Filmsky

To 2012! This was the year of the Avengers which would be a huge shift in the industry going forward, it didn't crack my top ten though. Some great sci-fi, the end of Nolan's Batman trilogy and the best Daniel Craig Bond film made this year pretty great. #Filmsky

Still surprised I had time to play games this year.

Now to 2011. Out of this list of ten, seeing The Cabin in the Woods was such a fun experience. This was marketing done right. The trailers did not spoil the big twist and honestly the industry would be better with more marketing strategies like that. #Filmsky

My top ten movies of 2010! While I do love Christopher Nolan's Batman movies, his original movies are such a treat. Inception is still a great time. Then there is Scott Pilgrim. This is my favorite Edgar Wright movie. Love the cast, the editing, the effects, the humor. Great stuff. #Filmsky

This year I haven't touched my film blog at all. The first year of fatherhood has been quite the transition. That said I have had time to make lists of my top ten movies for every year since 2009. So to countdown to my top ten of 2024, here's my 2009 list. #Filmsky

Seeing as this was my first year as a dad, I'm impressed to have played that much at all. While my replay of the TLOU: Part II won out in hours I finally had the chance to play Alan Wake II, that was a trip to experience for the first time.
