They deliberately cast a voice actor who has committed SA for one of the main villain roles in Kiwami 3 (because he was naturally "slimy") and have refused calls from fans to have him replaced. At least, that's the main point of controversy.

What we have are effectively 90s digital equivalents to forms of animation and background work done prior to the advent of computer-generated VFX. It gives these games a kind of unique hand-crafted feeling compared to later RPGs that have fully digital sets and in-engine character models.

Heck, just look at the original Fallout games for an explicit stop-motion influence, with the talking heads being digitally-manipulated models of scanned clay models for certain important NPCs (which have now been sadly lost to time).

Second, we have the usage of sprites, which are the result of 3D digital models of characters and enemies being "photographed" as pixelated images one frame at a time, and then stitched together into cohesive, pre-programmed animations. It's basically a form of stop motion animation.

First, we have pre-rendered backgrounds, detailed 3D environments captured as a flat plane upon which things may be animated in-game. These are the video game equivalent of matte paintings (besides when actual matte paintings are used in games).

I mean, it's the only one of them Roger Ebert actually really liked, and if that's not an endorsement...
