Finally got around to finishing the second book! Still enjoying the fun of getting layers on characters that the show wasn't able/chose not to explore.

I really enjoyed The Expanse show, and decided to try out the books. Exactly what I hoped for: more of this author's already-intriguing world building, and a Highlights style "Spot the Differences" game built right in!

Root TTRPG Core Book: Enough words in here it better count as reading a book! I absolutely love Root the game; this TTRPG does a fantastic job fleshing out the lore.

Time Spiral, by Scott McGough
Having played cards of Teferi, Jhoira, and Radha for years, I was genuinely stunned to see how well McGough could breath life into these characters. Teferi is deeply overconfident, yet charming; Radha is defiant but intelligent.

Jesus and John Wayne by Kristin Kobes du Mez

This was hard to read, as it is a catalogue of so many of the failings of the movement that has shaped—and still shapes—much of my life. I appreciate, though, the author's willingness to end on a note of hope: "What was once done might also be undone."

Grading Soundtrack: X-Men '97 soundtrack includes what might be the single best theme song of all time, as well as a bunch of fantastic ambient music.

Only weird thing: Why are the discs blue and red, instead of blue and gold?

Grading Soundtrack: "Dustland Fairytale" always makes me want to go punch something, but in a good way.

Grading Soundtrack: For some reason I just want to keep listening to the C & D sides over and over again. "Vito's Ordination Song" is really touching.

Grading Soundtrack: Death Cab does not deserve the very tinny speaker I have in my classroom, but I still love this album nonetheless.

Grading Soundtrack: "After the Thrill is Gone" definitely resonates with my current vibes after 100+ of the same essay.

Finished! Rereading these novels very much makes me join the hordes of those #magic players who wish today's story could have this much breathing room.

I'm a sucker for a series. King's portrayal of Urza actually reminds me a lot of Elon Musk: two men slavishly devoted to their definition of success, regardless of what it costs others.

This was the current block when I first started playing Magic. I very fondly remember the "Fat Packs" Wizards used to sell: they included boosters and the story novelization. There's some characters in these books that haven't ever gotten cards; would be cool to see those in the future!
