Just read the article and it makes sense. I host gitea for myself and it is great but when I think about the workflows I'd have to manage from my job I do think like nope, no way I am maintaining that infra

It most definitely is. I do recommend however spinning a docker container to test it out locally and do a full evaluation or you could also try #seafile. There are actually plenty of alternatives out there with great community support.
