Look, Elon Musk is giving away free coffee, snacks AND fruits at his factory. I guess he’s not such a horrible person after all!

After my recent visit to #Hungary, I couldn't stop thinking about how not dealing with a troubled past can lead to a horrible present. Not just individually but also collectively. That's why I truly hope #Ukraine will deal better with its trauma than Hungary ever did.

“Being colorful (diverse) isn’t a value. Vomit is colorful too. 😎 That’s it.”

Tamas Deutsch, Member of the European Parlament from Hungary’s governing party after the government banned the #pride by changing the constitution. Not 1939, but 20-fucking-25.

Does it feel like some people are living in different realities, and they can't see what's going on? You're right. They do. Here's why 👇

Organized my thoughts (rant?) a little better on this #Hungary goes #Russia topic a bit better. 👇

And while #Hungary bans the #Pride, in reality, this is how they protect children: the former ambassador to Peru was caught with 19,000 (yes, thousand) child pornography pictures. He got a fine of around €1500.

Continuing the “I’m not homesick anymore” streak: I realized I didn’t travel to #Budapest but to #Moscow where they banned the #Pride to protect children. I mean, what happened in #Russia in the 2010s happens in #Hungary in the 2020s. It literally took 2 hours to be ready to go home to Berlin.

To be clear, I’m all for families, children, education, healthcare. But this? What’s the message? The target group? Why is there more than any other ads combined? On an intl. airport in 5 languages, while the website is 🇭🇺 only (bar an 🇬🇧 1pager)? It makes 0 sense apart from spending taxpayer money.
Nothing cures home sickness like #Hungarian propaganda which starts at #Budapest airport with “family friendly” #billboards (happy, white, hetero, thank god!). Several languages for 0 reasons. In the city it continues with dubious gov. achievement ads. Billions spent on creating pseudo-reality.

This is one of the best episodes to date, with a really strong last third. So much of what I'm thinking about is there, with some very helpful arguments and ideas. Thank you,
@notalawyer.bsky.social and @michaelhobbes.bsky.social, you're doing an amazing job.

Fascism and populism are a match made in spin doctor heaven, but they aren't necessarily connected. However, they both work perfectly on the broken workers of late-stage capitalism and post-communism.

Sometimes, I feel like I'm lagging behind the news with Think bowl. Two weeks ago, I felt I was too late to the game with this post about #Musk, #Trump, #Tesla, #Nasa, and #corruption, but then they came once more and made me relevant again. Thanks, I guess...?

I started experimenting with turning my Substack into a podcast for the TL;DR;LI (too long didn't read listened instead) crowd. The first episode about why #fascism is so attractive and how it's taking over #politics is now available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

Sadly, he does. It's just a new business. It's called corruption and selling cars and space rockets to the government. (And potentially robots at some point.)

For a long time, I couldn’t understand why far-right governments weren’t doing a better job with social security and economic policies.a I get it now: it wouldn't do them any good as they thrive on inequality and corruption.

BTW, the #CDC layoffs are perfectly aligned with what I'm talking about in the post below... People who don't understand scientific methods (or decide to ignore them for political gain) will do stuff like this.
It’s easy to feel as though the world is becoming anti-intellectual and anti-science. But why is this happening? Because science is confusing, religion and pseudo-science, on the other hand, are very comforting. More on Substack 👇

I would like to know more about the differences between European Christianity and American Evangelism/Puritanism. I understand some main differences, but some reading on origins, details, and reasons would be much appreciated.

I decided to implement a biweekly schedule for my Substack, which means that next week I’m posting another longform about #education (ofc the Department of Education is mentioned) and the rather disturbing phenomenon of anti-intellectualism.

Seeing what’s going on with #nasa and other government agencies deleting information, I think it’s time for the left to start speaking in conspiracy theorist lingo: “they don’t want you to know,” “the government is trying to censor and hide this information, but…” We know it fucking works.

In the last few days, I have deleted all my Meta accounts, including Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Messenger. It might not be a lot for them, losing one user, but at least I know I can vote with our wallets, data, and time every single day.

Seeing the shitshow that’s going on in the #US and #Canada, I feel like I should mention for the record that the topics my posts on Substack aren’t about being soft on far-right leaders. They must be opposed. I write about what to do with voters, so their eyes are opened and not alienated further.
February 2, 2025 at 7:28 PM
Calling them names is going to be (and probably always was) counterproductive. It’s a pretty tough situation, naming the leaders what they are, but not calling the voters what they voted for. I hope it’s not an impossible task, tho.
I think it already is.

But seriously. Don’t call them names. We want the door open for them when they realize the mistake they made.

We are for a better America. Not a vindictive America
