Yeah, and you deal with it by saying to whomever is hosting, “[relative] is a racist. If they’re invited I will not be there.” Probably won’t change anything but at least then you can stuff yourself and watch football in peace.

Democrats feel like they are stuck with Republicans. Republicans do not feel the same in return. When they escalate their bigotry, dem response is “how do we maintain some semblance of normality knowing these guys are already one foot out the door on America?”

I’ve been daydreaming about this for months. His need to be praised is so powerful, his prospects for accomplishing anything legitimately praiseworthy so slim. “Imagine all those people you pooped on a few weeks ago getting out in the streets out of actual gratitude.” It could work, I tell you.

It’s different when you lived through it. I don’t listen to pop music of the 50’s intentionally but it doesn’t bother me the way that most of those from 1989 do. When it engulfs you like a poison gas cloud, you develop some resentment.

I had a similar thought reading that. But also it’s a really good sign that even though dead-ender centrist dinguses are still trying to tell us they’ve got the lock on the procedural fixes that will undo this administration, normies are getting slowly radicalized anyway.

People are deranged about you, Will, it’s true. But this is transparently bad faith. She’s agreeing with someone who is pointing out a difference between the monetary contribution of someone who is destitute and that of someone who is relatively comfy. Not saying the contribution isn’t “real.”

I also think there is foundational projection, as it were. They know that they work in service of a deeply insincere political philosophy, that if that support were made difficult or unpleasant in some way, they could drop it without being unduly affected, and they assume we’re the same way.

Truly, this seems like the first step for all of us: stop talking to MAGA people in your life and tell them that that’s why you’re not talking to them. You can’t gently coax a person out of a cult.
