A risk that continues to grow.

In 2020 @wwf.panda.org identified the 100 global cities expected to suffer the greatest rise in water risk by 2050- home to at least 350 million people!

We've already seen several megacities just days away from running dry.

In 2013 Prof. Stocker, then co-chair of @ipcc.bsky.social WG1, warned in @science.org of the rapidly closing door of our #climate targets

If mitigation is delayed targets become unachievable, as necessary rates of emissions cuts become impossible

1.5C is now unachievable, 2C will soon be too!

Yet more report whiplash, as groups vie to frame the #climate discourse ahead of #COP30.

"progress... has largely failed to materialize"

"Renewables are expanding faster than any previous energy technology"

"No major economy is on track"

"emerging markets have made major strides"

Thanks for your replies. I agree, doomism gets us nowhere.

There is some evidence of relative decoupling, but none of absolute decoupling on the scale that is needed.

I found this paper by Vogel and Hickel (2023) very thought-provoking.

The abolitionist Thomas Clarkson campaigned for almost 50 years of his life before the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833 was passed.

There were many defeats along the way, but he kept the faith.

His history of the struggle, published in 1839 is full of inspiration...

"One may insist that green growth hasn’t occurred because it has not been tried, the fact that it hasn’t been empirically observed till now then becoming irrelevant. We follow instead a more precautionary approach & argue that policy should be made on the basis of robust empirical evidence..."

I've finally got around to curating a selection of films about the #climate crisis 🎥

There's lot of mediocre climate films out there, but for me these stand out head & shoulders above the rest 🎞️

They make excellent resources for classrooms, lecture halls, or community cinema's 🎬

I disagree with the line you are taking here. There are in fact many very eminent scientists who are saying that we are on a course towards collapse

Rather than dismiss them out of hand Gates, indeed all of us, should listen and reflect on their arguments.

🚨 The news-media is utterly failing to cover these momentous scientific findings.

The public is not being informed of the danger posed.

The UK chief scientist Dame Angela McLean just highlighted this as an issue of national security - why are no news outlets covering it ?!? 🤯

And here's how that compares to what was pledged at Paris 10 years ago.

Global emissions should be rapidly declining NOT sill increasing!
October 28, 2025 at 1:53 PM
The UKs #climate pledges are assessed as "insuffient" by @climateactiontracker.org meaning that they put us on track to miss even the 2C target of the Paris Agreement.

The UK must up its ambition & accelerate climate action, not hit pause as some morally corrupt politicians have recently claimed
