IMO, giving “hints” is the thing that’s great in theory but doesn’t work in practice.

All I’m saying is direct communication is literally always the best answer if you actually want to get your message across. Otherwise, you’re just providing ambiguity and nebulous ‘rejections’ that accomplish nothing.

I don’t think it’s really about them “taking it well”, it’s about being clear, precise, and honest. How they react to rejection is on them, but if you aren’t being clear enough in your intent then you have to deal with them coming back again and again and eventually will be forced to be blunt.

I think it’s actually common courtesy to just be direct from the jump 🤷🏼‍♂️ men don’t tend to be the sharpest pencils in the box, including the gays, and even very obvious hints can fly right over their heads. Learned from experience that being kind but blunt is usually the way to go.
