Anything in particular you’ve read/seen of interest? My own reading has been a similar period, but perhaps a little earlier 300-600ish

I ended up just call all characters, um, characters. But then I don’t have any special rules characters that are controlled by different players.

I think this is a good point of kind of a super blank slate of just “play” but the moment you add one variable - you are in a wood - you get “play (game) in a wood”… “play in a wood with camp kids”… “play in a wood with camp kids who are too much last night”
