Boeing outlines the High Speed Commercial Vehicle concept developed under #NASA contract. HSCV is a four-engine aircraft with a Mach 4 cruise and 5,000 nm range. This is conceptual design for technology roadmapping and not aimed at a product. #aviation #avgeek

We've been waiting a while, but Textron eAviation company Pipistrel has flown its Nuuva 300 uncrewed cargo #eVTOL. Designed to fly 600lb payload 300nm, Nuuva is hybrid-electric but first flight was all-electric (pusher cruise engine not fitted). Aircraft is loaded via raised nose. #aviation #avgeek

Clean-sheet firefighter. Aerobatic aircraft manufacturer Game Aerospace developing GB2 single-engine air tanker. All-composite, two-seat/dual-control, 1,200-gal hopper, 19,000-lb max TO weight, 12,000-lb useful load. 1,800shp P&WC PT6A-67F. First flight Q3 2025, FAA certification Q2 2027. #aviation

Riblet, riblet. Japan Airlines debuting a 787-9 on international flights with drag-reducing riblets over most of the fuselage. Applied using a paint-to-paint process developed by O-well which JAL says is lighter and more durable than adhesive film. Expected 0.24% reduction in cruise drag. #aviation

The planform is more of a modified diamond wing. FB-22 was a delta and FB-23 a trapezoid. Nearest I can find is the Dassault Petit Duc

Seemingly they have NVG-compatible LED lights on the proprotor blade tips. But that doesn't explain this.

We haven't seen the money yet.

Seems like good news for Lilium, but we don't know yet if the unidentified new investors have the hundreds of millions of dollars still needed to get the Lilium Jet into production. Hopefully it is a rescue and not just a reprieve.

Seaplane startups - after #eVTOL and eSTOL, seems the latest craze in electric aircraft hypeland is the seaplane. Hampton, Virginia-based Tidal Flight has tested a 1/6th-scale (10ft) 3D-printed model of its Polaris hybrid-electric 9-12-seater in Davidson Laboratory towing tank. tidalflight.com

Triangular spinners? Bell tests stop-fold tiltrotor #X-plane design for #DARPA SPRINT project. Also reveals potential C-130-size operational vehicle with chined spinners that conceal blade fold and pitch mechanisms and reduce drag at high speed. SPRINT aiming for #VTOL and 400kt cruise. #aviation

From one of my favourite websites. But, boy, how modeling is changing! This amazing 1/72 model of a “canceled project”- the Armstrong Whitworth AW169 offered against UK RAF requirement F.155T, was designed, 3D printed and completed by the modeler, scautomon.

More interesting than the movie. Went to Gladiator 2 over Thanksgiving and got to see Honda's 'Unstoppable Dreams" ad for first time - complete with #eVTOL model test flight video. Honda preparing to fly subscale demonstrator in US.

Oh, the movie? Basically a remake of Gladiator but not as good.
