What this points to is a winner that overcomes a big mistake. They attack the game after making a mistake, and get to the end in a "messy" way.

I think at the end of the day teenys story is about finding something else in survivor than winning- they thought theyd enter as a badass who could cut people, be everyone’s best friend and they can’t. Poetic story but not the winner!
