My whiskey/whisky of the day is Monkey Shoulder blended malt Scotch
I am a total Scotch newbie but, not a whiskey newbie 😉. On the nose, I get 🍏 & 🍎 a slight whisper of smoke. On the palate, malt sweetness, caramel, apple and vanilla. I do enjoy the mouthfeel of this blend of single malts

My whiskey/whisky of the day is Monkey Shoulder blended malt Scotch

After much deliberation, these are the Scotches I am starting with in my Scotch Whisky journey.
I have about 5-6 more in my list and those are a tad smokier and peaty.

One bottle that I am certainly glad I have a backup of
Parker’s Heritage Collection 10 year Rye (AKA PHC17 or Parker’s 17)
If you don’t know the story behind PHC, Parker Beam was the head distiller at Heaven Hill and he passed away from ALS, this is the 17th Ann. ed. of his passing.

Sometimes you just have to break off the fancy glass! This is a fantastic 4R Bourbon. Dusty, barrel char, clove, cherry, sweet and a long finish.

My whiskey of the day is Peerless Single Barrel Rye from the distillery.
I will admit I am a bit of a Peerless fan boy. Nearly every bottle I’ve gotten from them from the single barrel collection has been great.

I friend gave me a sample of ‘24 version so, doing a side by side. My ‘23 bottle has been open ~ a year, not sure if that is why the Maple Syrup flavor is so strong on the ‘24.
‘24 = More maple syrup
‘23 = More whiskey flavor

My whiskey of the day is Redwood Empire Haystack Needle Rye coming it at 116 proof.
This is a great single barrel high proof rye. Caramel, clove, baking spice and sweetness are the main notes I get.
It is a little less sweet that Sagamore 9 year but, very comparable.
The bottle is gorgeous.

Oaky, sweet, caramelized sugar. I am a sucker for the higher 110 proof.

This one is a little harder to get; it is an export only and not on the shelf in the US
This is a great whiskey but, I am a bit of a Wild Turkey fan boy, I like that WT “funk”
