Moved to Linux Mint myself not too long ago. I have a very similar situation as yours so I've opted to do something called dual-booting. It allows me to have both OS(es?) on the same system. I mainly use GNU/Linux, then move over to Windows when I can't get shit to work on it.

I *believe* that it was a simple toggle in Windows 8 and early versions of Windows 10, but they phased it out eventually.

Dark patterns and all that. In this case, real fuckin sombre, macabre, dark patterns.

Makes you wonder how many people are sorta forced to use their computers this way

Open the registry editor,

• Navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows"

• Create a new key named "Explorer" there, then in that new key/folder,

• Create a new "DWORD (32-bit) Value" named "DisableSearchBoxSuggestions", edit its value to "1" and restart your PC.
