I think the key is having the animations be stepped but all player controls and camera be normal and without a framerate change.

I think you could concentrate longer than 2 hours as long as the method of teaching changes and continues to re-engage.
a lecture may hold folks for 30 mins, mix it up and start involving people in the conversation and you buy more time. Do a real world demonstration of something and you buy more.
