I don’t know how popular they are compared to other breeds, but they certainly aren’t rare. There are some life-sized corgi statues here that are a minor tourist attraction.

If 19 wickets fell on every day of every test we’d have a problem. People pay to watch 5 days of test cricket, not 2 or 3. Wickets are exciting, but seeing a batter in command score a century is just as satisfying. Let’s hope we see some of that, if not in this match then in the rest of the series.

International cricket started ridiculously early in New Zealand this season, on October 1 (hardly summer), and there have already been some exciting T20I and one day matches against England and the West Indies. But as a lover of test cricket above all other forms, I’m looking forward to the Ashes.
