The Black Butler fandom experience
two (or maybe just one?) of my favourite phenomena in literary analysis and criticism are when a story is blatantly explicitly textually about abuse and the majority of people who engage with it bend themselves into junji ito's enigma of amigara fault-esque configurations to focus on any other theme but the elephant in the room named Abuse standing on their chests, and when a story is about the rot of abuse festering beneath a beautiful or comical disguise, and the majority of people who engage with it are enraptured by the mask on the rotting bloated stinking corpse
