I am currently working on something longer than normal for me! 💕☺️

This left me with so many questions. Lovely, I hope you expand it. It has the skeletal promise of a long piece.

My work is just slowly and slowly becoming bigger with each piece. It started with small flash poetry, then I got a short story out of myself. Now I’m onto a novella. Baby steps!

Writing tends to be part processing and part journaling for me; even when it explores completely random things not related to me. Trust the process!

Kinda related, kinda not. So, I saw a ghost writing job that was asking for 10,000 words a week, fantasy. It paid 3 cents a word. I tried to write that, to see if I could do it. And, ended up with a philosophical piece. However; it had all maps and characters you want! Just not the fantasy. Win?

For me, have steps and actionable goals helps. Then I feel less lost in words and pages of abstract poetry and stories. At the end of the day, I feel like I am writing my own story through the journey.

My strategy right now is:
•write everyday
•submit short stories to publications
•create a blog of my own
•monetize somewhere along the way
•publish other authors short stories on my blog
•and, eventually become a publication
•publish hardcover books

The silly thing is—confidence is always everything. No matter what you do, you are doing it for you. And, the world just might pay attention to it. That’s always a bonus.

If you want a large manuscript: do it. If it seems easier to make smaller ones for now, that also works. You can also share some of your work here so that you have somewhere for people to find you.

I think poetry contests are definitely helpful to get you published and give credence to your name when you do want to publish. I actually don’t think that having multiple small or large collection of stories matters. It’s about knowing what you want to do and not taking no for an answer.

I live in SF and work at a theatre… 🎭

I actually always have a love for the first draft more than I do for the final draft or the more polished version of my thoughts.

Same! It’s calming to the mind, and it brings out things you didn’t even know you were worried/sad/thinking about.

And, if you want your long goal to be to publish a collection of poetry. Write, write, write and then take the steps to publish. You can do it!!! I can’t stop writing and have a new vision to work with. ☺️

I’d make a plan for it, and stick to it. Even if your plan is just to copyright your work and post on Bluesky. Having a goal and vision helps guide your journey.

I posted for 5+ years on instagram. I had a moderate following and loved my progression as an artist. Then, I suddenly quit because I didn’t want ai to learn from it/others to steal it. It was like taking down a whole chapter of my life, and very painful. But, I do encourage you to post and write!
