I want to thank the committee, not only for recognizing the work but for seeing us—the people whose stories are often silenced, deported from the national conversation.

This award does not belong to me alone. It belongs to everyone who has ever stood in a country where they have lived almost their life and wondered if they were allowed to belong.

When I receive this prize, my people—our people—are still in detention centers or facing a very dramatic life in their homeland.

We are here today amid a very difficult situation across the country—health, food, freedom of speech, immigration... but with passion and a mission, we all persevere because no man in the whole world can change the truth. One can only seek the truth, find it, and serve it. The truth is everywhere.

I don’t think you could define this as a human being, do you? I am deeply concerned that these children may suffer lifelong trauma since they witness what is happening with their parents, just because they were seeking a better life, just as my ancestors did.
