I'm guessing there was some hyperbole here, but I don't know how many gamers could stomach losing every single match, or even 80%, even if they were all close.

True but EPL is (obviously) a different roster build, so they can rotate some and fans still get the team they're there to see for the most part. Nobody wants a match-up of second 11s between MLS squads, and I say that as a die-hard for an MLS club. It's kinda apples and oranges.
