💯 For sure. In a galaxy of what really amounts to loosely connected local warlords and blades for hire, traditional uniforms and schemes seem to me to be more the exception than the rule. But writing about and depicting common uniforms gives contemporary readers something to relate to.

As others have said: go nuts. I've done two schemes based on in universe lore, but I've also done a small squad as my own mercenary crew with uniform colors and a whole bunch as any dang color I felt like at the moment.
If anyone whines, it's a rogue mercenary.
