One of my articles further up (last one?) actually also notes that hiring discrimination hasn't decreased, so it's clear current initiatives don't work well enough. That said, the article isn't against the goals of DEI, but rather demands that we make sure initiatives work - which is just logical

Understanding on one group shouldn't give with hatred for another. It misses the mark, and I'm very curious what the education contained. Focus shouldn't be on the harm of perpetrators, but on wanting improvement for the perpetrated. This is an example of doing the wrong thing for the right reason

To go deeper into the analysis we likely need the actual study. But they looked at over 3000 counties. That remains plenty to minimise standard error and make the results reliable unless their method ain't sound

It's doesn't say that belief makes it right, but only that we each make our best estimate
