Conservation worker focusing on prescribed fire. Sometimes lost in the woods / frequently lost in a book.
Oh this looks fun! Looking forward to it!

We capped off the week with a successful half acre burn on the NGTC campus up in Clarkesville, GA. Everyone did really well and although it wasn't a perfect burn day I think the students got a lot out of the experience!

I want to give credit to my editors, who asked me to write 2,000 words on why Andrew Tate wears such tight pants. I submitted 3,700. They asked if I really needed to start with a story about the industrial revolution and I said "yes, absolutely don't cut."

Shutting down this program would be staggeringly stupid, few enough people have any particular interest in working in Conservation. Making it harder for interested people to see if its the right career for them is only going to hurt the work. But of course that's just par for the course with Trump.

And those are just the self-serving reasons for someone to volunteer with Americorps. Now that I'm on the other side of the fence it is staggering just HOW MUCH an americorps (or other volunteer org) crew can accomplish. Their help makes a ton of (time intensive and unglamorous) work possible.

History is definitely going to record SOMETHING about Trump's actions. I don't think the word "saving" is going to be involved in the records though.

There's a ton to unpack in that order. I really have no idea how it is going to impact forests in the South. A quick look at the map provided in the linked article seems to imply that just about the entire forest is under the new rules.

Thanks! This is exactly what I came to the comments to ask about!

Some of the folks who were fired near to where I work had high level fire qualifications. They spent weeks on prescribed and wildfire assignments every year in addition to their normal workloads. Their absence now is going to make things harder and more dangerous for everyone who remains.
