I think it's because Mamdani is more left leaning that the average democrat so it's seen as maybe a starting point for a left wing shift (I remain sceptical). Also I don't think his rent control or state run grocery stores will work.

I didn't say "leftists" I said "American leftists". I don't think they are the same and the "status quo" they'd like to preserve is the last centuries of Russia influenced Ukraine - complaining about EU and NATO expansion being "too rapid" or interfering in "Russia's yard".

I'm saying that American socialists are practically acting like apathetic moderates because criticising someone else besides the USA or Israel puts them out of their comfort zone and makes them ignore injustice. I'm not saying MLK criticised socialism and I'm even sympathetic because I'm a lefty.

When it comes to Ukraine a lot of "Leftists" match the white moderate MLK was complaining about: "...the white moderate (read:Leftist), who is more devoted to 'order' than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice."

Sometimes I think we legalised gay marriage, medicinal cannabis (recreational incoming any day now), assisted dying, etc. out of spite for other ex-Yugos. Not to mention our recent Israeli weapons embargo and ban on imports from the west bank settlements.

It's simply because Slovenia is a lot more left wing, plus lacks the toxic machismo culture of the other ex-Yugo states and therefore must be "feminine". It makes no sense to use it outside of a Balkan meme subreddit though.
