(20) UPDATE: I’ve been informed that for the RSB, the best thing to do is to go for the second option, which is writing your own submission & emailing it to them. You can explain in it your grievances with the leading questions in the other forms.

We’re going to draw, write, & decorate holiday cards to go to people behind bars this holiday season. Hope to see you there 💗

A recent years-long national inquiry has been published finding that people in state care, including children and the elderly, have been subjected to decades of abuse. In his Crown apology speech to survivors of state care abuse, Luxon has said “I know that financial redress is important to many of you, and no amount of money will ever make up for what you have endured…” He has not yet committed to financial redress to survivors of state abuse. This is what worries me the most. Even if it doesn’t pass, the ugly rhetoric against Māori that this “debate” invites will stay with us for years if not longer. And she’s so right for pointing out that it’s fundraising-motivated.
