This spiked ring is attached to calves to stop them from nursing since dairy milk is "more valuable" to humans than to day old cows. The calves are then either slaughtered for beef or veal, or grown just long enough to be forcibly impregnated and continue the cycle.

The easiest way to find animal products to avoid is to look at the allergens at the bottom of ingredients, but even some "non-dairy" or plant based products can sneak it in!

“Free range” cows suffer from pests as much as horses, but don’t get the same protective clothing or shelter. These cows ran from us even though cows are normally affectionate and loving; they hadn’t experienced human kindness. Meat makes us complacent to suffering.

Our mascot, 137, gets his name from the 137,000 cows slaughtered in the US every day. He is a guardian to all animals, especially livestock, which are treated far worse than pets despite similar intelligence.
