So all that news you hear about a spike in Republican white Christian nationalist young men? Sure, they’re out there. But they’re the extreme minority.

Despite #atheists and secularists historically being perceived as heavily male-dominated groups, younger generations are pretty evenly matched.

While 50% of young #secular adults identify as men, 47% identify as women, and 3% identify as transgender and/or nonbinary.

Young secular adults in America are a racially diverse bunch. ✊🏽✊🏿✊🏼✊🏻✊🏾

The racial demo of #secular voters ages 18-29 is very similar to the overall young adult population.

We hope to see these young people engage in politics to ensure their growing numbers are represented + their voices are heard.

Among overall voters, 37% identify as conservative or very conservative, 33% as moderate, and 29% as liberal or very liberal.

#Secular voters have a markedly different distribution, with 49% identifying as liberal, 34% as moderate, + 17% as conservative.

#Secular folks are an increasingly huge percentage of the U.S. population and deserve to be represented in local, state, and federal elections and policies that reflect our values (values, keep in mind, that are shared by many folks who *are* religious).

Though, historically, there has been a pervasive statistic that the majority of secular folks are men, the gender breakdown is much more balanced now than in previous decades.

48% of young adults in the U.S. ages 18-29 identify as #secular. This is a massive percentage of our youngest generation of voters who will be helping to shape policy for decades to come, especially in the 2026 midterms.

While the majority of #secular folks are white, secular numbers in communities of color are steadily rising, as the stigma of leaving religion gradually decreases + support increases for POC who face backlash for apostasy.

Nearly 65% of U.S. #secular adults identify their religious affiliation as “nothing in particular.”

They may be #atheist, agnostic, spiritual, or have a faith belief that isn't tied to religious doctrine. ~17% specifically identify as atheist and ~17% as agnostic. Secular folks contain multitudes!

Since 1980, there have been 11 presidential elections. According to exit poll data, the majority of #secular voters have supported the Democratic Party candidate.

This century, #Democrats have reached their highest levels of support from secular voters so far.

In the 2024 election, 71% of #secular folks voted #Democrat + 27% voted Republican. As the largest religious demographic, it’s past time for politicians to take us for granted.
