Marisa Abela, BLACK BAG
Elizabeth Chisela, ON BECOMING A GUINEA FOWL
Olivia Colman, PADDINGTON IN PERU
Wunmi Mosaku, SINNERS
Hailee Steinfeld, SINNERS

This would be an absolutely A++ supporting actress awards lineup and it isn't even May yet! Hopefully signs of a good cinema year to come...

At SCMS last weekend I worked in an old Coors Light jingle to my presentation to set the scene in early 2000s toxic bro masculinity (for the film JOY RIDE, it made sense I swear lol). I should have done like Catholic mass cantor arms for everyone to come in together on “and twinnnns!”

Betty Buckley in a revamped Grizabella costume for NY Mag is very much meeting the moment. Imagine this is how you're finding me when you reach out

i'll also accept: Valentina has quit her job and cashing in some employee benefits at another White Lotus location, trying to figure out what's next

Not too early to think about WHITE LOTUS 4, who would you want to return? My pitch: let's get another round of Mark and Quinn Mossbacher specifically, has Quinn followed his dreams of paddling? Is he onto another lost soul, wanderer fixation?

On a shortlist of my favorite single shots of the cinematic year 2024

I haven't yet seen I'm Still Here or The Apprentice, but out of those Oscar noms, this is how I think I'd be voting in the acting categories

PAT GARRETT & BILLY THE KID, dir. Sam Peckinpah, USA, 1973
DOOR, dir. Banmei Takahashi, Japan, 1988
HEAT LIGHTNING, dir. Mervyn LeRoy, USA, 1934

I think one of the themes of the cinematic year 2024 was shameless, self-loving stupidity, with CHALLENGERS, LOVE LIES BLEEDING, THE SUBSTANCE and TRAP all flying that flag to different extents. I love it, all hail exploring interesting affects and relations within the broad realm of stupidity

SCMS put me dead last this time around which surely won't be great for attendance BUT they were definitely speaking my love languages in terms of what they paired me with– Ti West? Cannibalism? These are great things

ALSO two thoroughly-decorated geniuses added sterling new portraits to their incredible bodies of work the first half of the year that I'd like people to revisit: Olivia Colman in WICKED LITTLE LETTERS and Anne Hathaway in THE IDEA OF YOU

Would love to see the NYC Critics' Awards tomorrow launch Marianne Jean-Baptiste's Best Actress Oscar campaign for HARD TRUTHS in earnest. Also show some love to I SAW THE TV GLOW and the boys from CHALLENGERS, pretty please and thank you

RED ALERT Dylan on Great British Bake Off letting a strand of hair fall casually over his forehead in this week's episode and it's PORNOGRAPHIC, got me taking a phone pic of my screen like an old

I feel like no one's watching it but Billy Magnussen is delivering a truly wonderful performance in THE FRANCHISE. The desperate masculine insecurity of a lower-tier superhero in a MCU-esque franchise, steroid-addled and dumb as a rock, he's a gem

First new episode without her, don't know where i am in my simultaneous DABDAs
