Another day, another #auk. The Black guillemot (Cepphus grylle) is born black+fluffy, with several years before developing its bright red feet fully. These are associated with sexual maturity @2-4 y/o 👣

Black guillies are widespread in the N.hemisphere and are arguably the best #seabird 😉 #Auktober

An #auktober pair of Razorbills (Alca torda) 🖤🤍🖤🤍

These tuxedoed little friends share nesting responsibilities equally between both parents. To avoid conflict on the rocks outside their nests they mirror the body language of their neighbours in a peaceful display! 🤝

Continuing our #AUKTOBER theme, here's a Common guillemot (or Common murre) with its beak full 🐧🐟

These little guys are incredible freedivers - recorded diving at depths of up to 180m in pursuit of prey 🤿 They have even been spotted through the window of submarines! ⚓

We have awarded our Research Grants of £500 for this round 🏆👏

Congrats to all the well-deserved recipients - more to follow on them! This time we are supporting projects on kittiwake nest conditions, parental care in petrels, using eDNA to locate cryptic petrel species & Kenyan gull monitoring! 🙌🕊️.
