HR-4 cancels FY2025 funding for USAID, but also for NPR and PBS. It passed "just barely" through the House, but is facing more resistance in the Senate.

Well-done! Two of the authors, Karen Hardee and Sandra Jordan, are USAID alums. Thank you.

Trump keeps repeating this one, even after being corrected by President Macron at the White House. As shown in this chart below, the US has provided less support to Ukraine to date than our European allies, $120b versus $138b. Trump's other lie is that Europe's funding is a loan. It is not.

In his Tuesday address to Congress, Trump gave a call-out to Elon Musk, noting triumphantly that DOGE had “found hundreds of billions of dollars in fraud." This is wildly exaggerated, as pointed out by fellow Brown alum, Steve Rattner (quoted in the post below).

44 days, 24 corrupt acts. This chart was prepared by Senator Chris Murphy:

"I’ve had my team cataloguing Trump’s corruption campaign since the start. Here’s the chart I used in my Senate floor speech laying out the stunning graft from just the first 6 weeks of his presidency."

Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly. Hmmm... Sound familiar? After his rapid, unscheduled disassembly of USAID and other government institutions, we all hoped that Elon would return to SpaceX. But maybe he's not so good at that either. Rockets are hard, indeed. It is rocket science, afterall.

Wow! It started two weeks ago with a peace negotiation that shockingly excluded Ukraine. Now a public dress-down of President Zelensky in the White House. Disgraceful! Meanwhile in Moscow, Trump today is the toast of the town.

Last night, Republican Congressman Rich McCormick, reelected with 65 percent of the vote three months ago, was startled to be greeted with boos and catcalls at a packed town hall meeting in Roswell, Georgia, by constituents objecting to the government-decimating policies of the Trump-Musk duo.

This according to a Quinnipiac University Poll fielded Feb 13-17. And this opposition is only going to grow as the impacts of these mindless and dangerous actions become more widely known and felt. Keep up the pressure and keep the faith!

Trump is already underwater. And Musk's numbers are even worse, with only 1/3 approving of the job he is doing. With such a poor performance rating, shouldn't Elon be shown the door? Meanwhile, he is firing thousands of hard-working civil servants who have excellent performance records.

We are witnessing the second rise of the robber baron. The first was late 1800's when industrialists became ultra-wealthy due to corrupt business practices. DYK: that the Monopoly board game was invented by Elizabeth Magie in 1904? The game was designed to demonstrate the injustices of monopolies.

One more example of mindless cutting to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy. This research advances health/medical discoveries and advances that benefit all of us.

Elon appears to be checking off everything on his to-do list in short order. Of course, lowering costs for working families seems to have fallen off the list. Coming up next: massive tax breaks for himself and his fellow greedy billionaires.

At a press conference where he could have been the Consoler-in-Chief, Trump retreats to his comfort zone as Liar-in-Chief.

Here is my vote for renaming the NHL's Utah Hockey Club. Apparently, the Utah Yetis was taken off the table due to trademark issues with the Yeti cooler company. You would think they could work that out with cross-branding (ice hockey, ice coolers? no?). If not the Yetis, why not the Sasquatch?

Of course, the middle class will foot the bill. US billionaires have doubled their wealth since the 2017 tax cuts went into place. There are now over 800 billionaires in the US, whose combined wealth totals $6 trillion. Sadly, Trump has managed to dupe enough of us to make their dream a reality.

Of course, the answer is "none of the above". The underlying blame is climate change. We have been far to slow in addressing its root causes as well as to slow in becoming better prepared for and more resilient to extreme weather. But disinformation is being promulgated by the MAGA conspiracy crowd.
