Many disks observed with JWST MIRI have different fluxes than when they were observed with Spitzer & SY Cha is no exception with stronger continuum emission at all wavelengths. Even the line flux seems to change over time, though the changes are within the uncertainty. Inner disks are dynamic! end🧵

The dust disk has a big old hole from 2.3-70 au. Compared to PDS 70, another disk with a large dust cavity (and 2 protoplanets inside the cavity) the inner disk of SY Cha is MUCH more gas rich. Whatever cleared the gap in SY Cha is less efficient than the PDS 70 planets. Exact mechanism is TBD (3)🧵

We detect SO MANY LINES, including the first robust detection in this disk of mid-IR OH and CO. Unlike many other disks, the inner disk of SY Cha is rich in both water can carbon-bearing molecules, which is a little strange because... (2)🧵
