This has Vincent Price, Boris Karloff, AND Peter Lorre, it's basically a perfect movie. Also I forgot this line from Price was even in the movie, but boy does it hit right now.
"Men like Scarabus thrive on the apathy of others, he's thrived on mine and that offends me."

Vibes and atmosphere count for a lot, and as far as I'm concerned those are through the roof in this one. Along with a neat character design and concept, definitely recommend.

I feel like it's a disservice to call this horror movie comfort food, but for me? About the best way I can describe it. Uncomfortable and frightening at points but doesn't send me into a panic/depression spiral afterward.

When I saw this it was an easy top 10 contender for the year. I don't think it's still top 10, but I still had a good time with it. Messaging counts for a lot.

19/?, Black Phone 2
There's a lot of elements here that I like and one that I think brings it down a full tier for me. I dunno. I think this is one where I might not have a concrete opinion until I watch it a second time.

This has validated my decision to try watching more non-English horror films. Great acting, great camera work, and REALLY great effects for the time. Even the MASK looks genuinely unnerving.

I feel like this is why you try your best not to write off particular subgenres. I'm generally not the biggest found footage horror fan, but this one hit a spot. I had a pretty good time with it.

This is still easily the best release I've seen all year. Likely one of the best of the decade. Very likely an alltime favorite, but I think I need at least a little more time to confirm

I don't think I've seen a single movie with Vincent Price in it that wasn't 10/10 for his presence if nothing else. I love this movie.

I liked this a lot, except maybe for the ending? But I actually really like the characters and there's some very creative uses of light and the absence thereof in this movie.
And if I watch Until Dawn I'll have seen all of Sandberg's movies.

The Monkey is a stupid goddamn movie and I love every minute of it.

I... have no idea what the heck I just watched. Maybe it's a consequence of doing it as a friend group movie night watch, but it did not click for me.

In my totally biased opinion, this is the best thing Marvel Studios has ever done and the lack of follow-up is unforgivable.

He is in fact a very good boy, and this is a very good movie that, I kid you not, is actually made even better by what's after the credits. I'm serious.

As someone who likes but is steadily gaining more of an appreciation for the original, I'm still amazed that this almost forty year later, kinda uneven sequel is as entertaining as it is.

I think this is one of my favorite horror movies that I somehow always forget about until I'm on a horror kick. Some really great makeup/prosthetics work, a great atmospheric setting and some delightfully sinister performances all around.

I'm probably more generous with horror films than any other genre, so when I say I think this was alright... know that there's a pretty big asterisk. Definitely enforces that I'm not a big fan of found footage OR online ghost hunter influencers.

This might be one of my favorite horror movies ever despite the fact that it doesn't really scare me at all? It's just goofy enough to be unnerving at points, and Obayashi's intent to make a movie that's just like a kid's dream works 100%.

This is a movie that gradually makes you feel more and more like the world is spiraling out of control around you in the best way.

It's funny to me how the only really scary part of this movie is the school bus but for completely mundane reasons, but I'm a sucker for good creature design and Sam has that in spades.

Sometimes you just can't beat the classics.

Me for most of this movie: "Is... does this actually count as horror? I mean there's elements, but... I WAS told this was a horror movie, right? I think I've been bamboozled."
Me at the end: "... Oh. Oh no, that's... sir? Mr. Anderson? This is not allowed thx."

We're certainly off to... a start with 1981's The Funhouse, a movie that's determined to prove that carnivals are weird and unsettling even without a mutant killer in the mix.
