Maybe the platformer didn't "disappear" but it is worth noting how it's no longer one of the most popular game games in the AAA game space. Instead of mascot platformers, it's mainly shooters/3D action adventure games
Then again, I suppose the 3D action game is just an evolution of the style ina way
