The 2024 #BulletinAMS State of the Climate Assessment is out today. @usa-npn.bsky.social contributed data & info about how #phenology is changing in the U.S. The timing of plant and animal activity such as leaf-out is a strong indicator of species and ecosystem response to changing conditions.

We are seeing a real herky-jerky start to spring this year! Things might finally start picking up in the middle of the country after a long, cold spell... but the start to the season definitely is not notably early #phenology

Here we go with tracking the start of spring! So far, spring leaf out is up to 10d late in southern FL and TX compared to long-term avg (1991-2020). Spring arrival is variable in CA & AZ, arriving 5d late to 2 wks early.

Here in southern AZ, I'm seeing red brome (Bromus rubens) greening up all over after the wet winter and spring.
