Raw materials for my editors and staff who arrive on Monday. We have five days to record 6 hours of content (across two days) and edit it into 20 segments (across four days) for an eventual four hours of content (broadcast in 14 days). Monday 9am the marathon begins.

Tomorrow the Uber arrives at 8:30am. 9am arrival, 10:15am board. My inner child struggles against the tight timeline (“They always say “Get to the airport 2 hours ahead of your flight!”. Who’s they?

Back in the real world, I take notes, nod and smile, and take the news back to the team. We run this cycle three more times in five days and in the end, we didn’t hit the bullseye, but we got on the board, and for a show next week, that’s more than good.

Next week? Hah.

I got to the room early, setup a speaker I brought myself (for bass, ‘natch), did the setup talk and let’er roll with a smile.

And she ain’t feeling it.

When that happens, I feel like Bugs Bunny getting caught in the act: do I tap dance off stage left?

It’s been a kind dissociation as I struggle through revision after revision, trying to land an important video for an important client and the GrandBoss ain’t feeling it.

That's why there's a f'ing statue in New York Harbor. The way to greet a new immigrant family in your neighborhood is to have them over for a potluck dinner. "Welcome to America, please share your food. Let's bring our spices together and learn about each other."

I've never met this person (The video had elements shot separately from the band), but I'm treating this as a gift of connection. Something we all need these days. And when the Universe gives you a gift, be grateful and damn sure act on it.

That kid is now 15 and this person always felt bad about leaving the thread unanswered. So, he reached out. And we've been having the best conversation about kids and life and everything the past few days.

We briefly caught up and looked for the video. We then lost touch. A few days ago, he wrote back, 14 years later. Shortly after we had originally communicated, he had his first child and life went there.
