Now watching 'The Gnome-Mobile' (1967), one of the live action films released in the year following Walt Disney's death. These opening matte shots, from the master Peter Ellenshaw, are striking.

Long before the Rescuers went down under, Disney put out this book: Strange Animals of Australia (1963) by Milton Lesser. Likely based on the Nature's Strangest Creatures film that came out in 1959, it catalogues how the world saw us in the 50s and 60s. The one on the right is the local edition.

Now for the last. The final day of #SydFilmFest holds just one film for me: EDDINGTON.

Big day today @sydfilmfest.bsky.social: I'm seeing THE BLUE TRAIL first thing in the morning, Jafar Panahi's IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT, Cannes Jury prize winner SIRÂT and SENTIMENTAL VALUE. That's a long day. I may have bitten off more than my eyes can chew. #SydFilmFest #SFF2025

Weirdest triple feature of weekend? Yesterday's THE GOLDEN SPURTLE, Kelly Reichardt's THE MASTERMIND and pastiche documentary ONE TO ONE: JOHN & YOKO. I'll match that today with a whiplash triple feature: TOGETHER, VIE PRIVÉE and Hong Sang-soo's WHAT DOES THAT NATURE SAY TO YOU #SydFilmFest #SFF2025

That was a double feature. Linklater's BLUE MOON is another example of why we need Ethan Hawke in all the things. This one is for theatre fans or if you just like good acting.

DREAMS...I'm still out on this one. Another performance piece, but was I supposed to like anyone? #SydFilmFest #SFF2025

While I didn't see it as part of the festival, I'm including it here as it is playing at #SydFilmFest this year. HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON (2025). #SFF2025

IT ENDS (2025): One of the joys of festivals is in discovery. This existential time loop film, the feature debut of director Alexander Ullom, keeps you guessing the whole way. See it as a film about hope, growing up or just a gripping mystery to be unpacked. #SydFilmFest #SFF2025

BELLOE (2024): Australia's Jayden Rathsam Hua said the idea came for this short after eating spaghetti bolognese. The body horror that unfolds is indicative of that. Some stylish moments and terrific jump scares coupled with quiet weirdness. Looking forward to more from Hua. #SydFilmFest #SFF2025

OLMO (2025): A charming coming of age flick with an excellent young cast. It's in no hurry to get where it's going, if it has a destination at all, but it's a great addition to the 'hangout' genre a nice slice of the late 70s. Come on Feel the Noize. #SydFilmFest #SFF2025
