Poem: I used to love every human Each with their disparate thoughts, with forgotten words, with missed appointments, with cruelty accruing at the corners of their mouths. I used to love every human and shone on each the projected image of the most beautiful painting I'd make of them. But in paintings people are forever revealing themselves to you, the colour exploding into your irises, spilling into your blood. In living they forever hide their thoughts, little wrinkled creatures of discontent. I used to love every human who looked away. I used to love every human for the few who'd shown me the short warmth of their nakedness. I used to love every human before I remembered the animal of my body and took my place next to the mantis, the sparrow, the rat.
