Last year, lawmakers eliminated New Hampshire’s Interest & Dividends tax—resulting in a $180 million hole in the 2025 budget and beyond — handing a huge tax break to people with substantial investment income. Now, they’re trying to fill the funding gap they created by extracting revenue from Medicaid recipients. This is not about fiscal responsibility; it is about shifting the tax burden from the wealthy onto working-class families, children, people with disabilities, and older adults. These budget choices reveal a stark and immoral set of priorities which do not reflect the values of ordinary Granite Staters. We urge legislators to remember that Medicaid is not an optional perk: it is the difference between life and death for thousands of people in New Hampshire. Erecting more barriers to accessing care will kill people. It really is that simple, and that dire. The Hands Off Medicaid campaign calls on Governor Ayotte to: Veto any state budget that includes cuts to Medicaid, including premiums and work requirements Publicly urge federal lawmakers to remove Medicaid cuts from the federal budget Reinstate the Interest & Dividends tax in New Hampshire so that those most able to pay contribute their fair share Governor Ayotte has a choice: advance the well-being of New Hampshire’s healthcare system and working families—or stand by while our state’s crucial services are dismantled to benefit the wealthy. Medicaid is not the problem. It is one of the most effective tools we have to protect lives, promote stability, and strengthen the economy. When Medicaid is strong, NH thrives. This campaign is not backing down. We will continue to organize, mobilize, and raise our voices until Medicaid is fully protected in this budget and beyond. Official Statement from the Hands Off Medicaid Campaign Following Civil Disobedience at the NH Budget Committee of Conference Meeting. During the June 17th Committee of Conference session at the Legislative Office Building, three members of the Hands Off Medicaid campaign, Jules Good, Sarah Chapman, and Lisa Beaudoin were arrested after engaging in nonviolent direct action . For months, the campaign has called on lawmakers to remove dangerous Medicaid provisions from the state budget—work requirements, monthly premiums, and all other cuts to Medicaid services. Advocates delivered more than 300 handwritten postcards from Granite Staters demanding that lawmakers protect Medicaid. Governor Ayotte has received over 1500 letters and hundreds of calls in addition to pleadings from leaders in the healthcare and long-term care sectors. When Committee members refused to address the substance of the issue, protestors read aloud firsthand accounts from Granite Staters who rely on Medicaid to survive. These stories—of people managing chronic illness, substance use, disability, caregiving, and low-wage work—made clear the devastating human impact of the proposed changes. After exhausting every conventional avenue, including a face to face meeting with Governor Ayotte, the team refused to leave without action and were arrested for refusing to abide by these devastating budget choices. These budget provisions are part of a calculated push to drive Medicaid disenrollment and create an expensive bureaucratic nightmare for a staff-starved NH DHHS. Monthly premiums are nothing more than a tax on people who are already struggling to afford food, housing, and basic needs. Despite the fact that 70% of Medicaid recipients are already working, and most who aren’t are caregivers or too ill to work, Republican legislators are championing harmful and unnecessary “work requirements”. It is vital that we call these requirements what they are: job loss penalties that endanger the health of people who lose their jobs by ripping away their health care. In 2019, NH's Medicaid work requirement failed. State officials, including Governor Sununu, suspended the policy, citing concerns about the administrative costs and the potential loss of coverage for thousands of residents. Subsequently, a federal judge blocked the implementation of the work requirement, ruling that it was "arbitrary and capricious" and failed to consider its impact on Medicaid coverage.

The final round of anti-trans youth bills have passed the State House & Senate. Today HB 10 was signed by NH Gov Ayotte. It forces teachers to “out” students to an abusive family, & to tell parents who sexually abuse their child that a child has made a report. Take action.

"Pillycock" is a British slang term, meaning penis, used to describe someone who is stupid, annoying, or foolish. It's considered derogatory and informal.

Picked up immediately started reading this gem by Saou Ichikawa today. As pointed out by @sfdirewolf.bsky.social the experiences depicted might seem radical to nondisabled readers because these/our experiences are woefully underrepresented in publishing. Refreshingly written by a PWD.
