I overheard some humans saying they were excited for "wings" the other day. I expected to see them flying around later, but all I could see from the feeder was them eating something in front of their light box before sleeping.

Can you imagine what would happen if birds started tearing down human homes in order to build our nests? I bet that would make the humans pretty mad, wouldn't it?

Been human-watching. That orange one with the loud squawk? Struts like he owns the forest, scares the flock, hoards seed, and roosts where he doesn’t belong. Classic invasive behaviour.

Look, I'm not specist. I just don't see how it is automatically true that humans are more valuable than birds. I mean, they can't even fly on their own. And when they do? They're just copying us.
But they are the best feeders. No other animals put out food for us. I'll give them that.

You might not know it from our name, but House Finches are entirely immune to the housing market. Supply, demand, affordability, bidding wars—we're above it all.

After resisting for years, I jumped on the bandwagon. I started human watching. Their behaviour is strange. They are happiest just being with each other and eating, but then they do all these other things for most of the day that they don't seem to like. Why not just nest, eat, frolic, and be happy?

Today went pretty well. As usual, there were too many Pine Siskins at the feeder, but I made friends with a friendly A̵m̵e̵r̵i̵c̵a̵n̵ Canadian Goldfinch.

Hi everyone, if you're wondering who I really am, the answer should have been obvious: male house finch. I occasionally engage in twitter, but I prefer blue skies.
