Many think that the Feast of the Immaculate Conception celebrates the conception of Jesus. In fact it honours the immaculate conception of the Virgin Mary by her mother Anna, also thought to have conceived in a miraculous manner “without sin or sexual union.”

On this World Day of the Poor- how many heard prayers or homily mentions for the poor at Mass today? (I did not )
Later in day, I stopped in an old NYC church and wonder why these reminders of the centrality of the poor for faith are lost in newer parishes

I remain very attached to the Jerusalem Cross, ever since using the Jerusalem Bible translation in college back in 1988. Simple, symmetrical, but so powerful.
