Not really, although I'm constantly amazed by artists who work in that medium.
This is some ferrofluid in oil suspended in water with I think at least two magnets behind it with one tied to the music's volumizer.

It's a Suspension of (typically) iron particulates in oil or other liquid (definitely want to use high gloss)so it responds to magnetism forming peaks and valleys along normally invisible magnetic lines. Very sharp but still liquid.

I have always thought it would be really straightforward to make art with ferrofluid and various magnetic sequences. You assume there's going to be some complications to overcome in the process, but without capital to start And fall back on it's just an idea :)
