Any help in identifying the bug on my ceiling would be greatly appreciated.
Maybe it's not about removing people. It's about spreading fear so that people won't speak up. It's about giving the American people (MAGA types anyway) a scapegoat for everything that goes wrong. The optics of "othering" serve a propaganda purpose for Trump.

Join ICE,
Meet new people,
Take them new places,
And be stuck there with them.

It was something special that got me through my day....

If the children were born in America then they wouldn't be treated like that, so it's a moot point.

Poverty and inequality is terrible but have nothing to do with this particular video, which is about mistreatment of people in immigration detention.

Oh dear. Don't give him any ideas!

They aren't being mistreated because they are poor. Middle class foreign travellers from first world nations have also been kept on inhuman conditions.

I love it!

Why am I suddenly reminded of creepy men in bars?

Technically it isn't a road block, but the police can pull over every car or ever other car for a RBT, so it's pretty much the same thing. Otherwise they would need a reason to stop you eg probable cause, witnessed an infringement or whatever (I'm no lawyer).

I'm in Victoria, Australian. I think the American (or Oregon at least) law is safer for patrons leaving the venue, though it puts more pressure on staff. Here there is more emphasis on individual drivers. Police routinely set up road blocks for DUI checks and there's a .05 BAC limit.

He's just jealous because no nation has any interest in taking over America.
Still, that type of talk is dangerous and stupid.

Interesting. Here the over serving itself is a serious offence, but you're not legally responsible for what happens after. It's actually an offence to allow a drunk or patron to remain on the premises. Morally and socially safe transport home is considered to be the responsibility of their mates.

You have bartenders licences? In my state you just have to pass the RSA course. It wasn't difficult but does mean you know the law. Once you have it you can't lose it.

Of course there are steep fines for serving an intoxicated person, and even more for the venue.

"a safe route home."

Do you mean safe for the person or safe for others on the road? Or both?

[I worked at a bar in university and did my Responsible Service of Alcohol course. It was all quite some time ago so you would know better than me.]
January 9, 2025 at 3:23 PM
True.
January 9, 2025 at 3:11 PM
Yes. The law in most jurisdictions says you can't continue to serve a drunk person, not that a drunk person can't remain on the premises. Ideally they would wait an hour and have something to eat as well.
