You mean the policy of the British Government since 2010 which is why we are having to have these reforms at all?

I didn’t know that. Thank you.

She wouldn't. The only way a BA "thesis" would be retained is if it won a major prize or was published, which is absolutely vanishingly rare.

No, they want to show the British Empire looking Good and Moral in comparison to eg. the Ottomans, Qing China, Japan, Leopold's Congo, French West Africa etc etc.

No, they're furious that Our Island Story isn't true - that's what 1066 was a parody of. Michael Gove campaigned to bring it back into use in schools, which thankfully failed.

Yorkshire shall inherit the Earth.

And whinge about the inheritance tax, no doubt.

Farage will only work with Tories so dishonest and incompetent that even Boris and Liz wouldn't promote them?
December 3, 2025 at 3:23 PM
Conservative/Reform Alliance Party? We got very close to the Conservative Unionist New Team, after all.

It's not a significant social problem, but if your assessment system needs to make exceptions for over a third of students at a hyper-selective institution, there's a flaw in your assessment system and you should probably think about what it is.

You mean the people the HE sector's most vigorous defenders frequently fall into arguing are an unnecessary waste of semi-public money?
December 3, 2025 at 2:47 PM
Congrats!
December 3, 2025 at 2:36 PM
Want.

“We are picking up the tab for the last government’s failure” is about the most uncontroversially true thing the PM or any Cabinet minister can say. It’s not politically helpful but it’s definitely true.

Including ignoring the many cases of cis women being harassed for “looking trans” as a direct effect of the hysteria about trans women in sport. Which does far more damage to women’s sport than anything any trans athlete has ever done or could ever do.

Same here.

Yes, a culture with much higher salaries which is why a tax on very high salaries (which aren’t replicable anywhere else) has raised pots of money.
December 2, 2025 at 12:01 PM
Harvard for example pays 5x more million-dollar salaries than *the entire UK higher-education sector*.
December 1, 2025 at 11:27 PM
Massachusetts has raised far less than that and has a considerably larger concentration of very rich residents than the UK does as well as slightly over double the GDP per capita.

December 1, 2025 at 9:59 PM
Which US states have introduced a wealth tax that raises over $1000 per capita?

The boat club is Lady Margaret BC after their founder. It's one of if not the oldest formally established student rowing clubs and actually predates such things being totally approved of by the colleges, hence not just having the college's name.
December 1, 2025 at 7:35 PM
The Government should not do that, because one person in a small team is highly identifiable and "we do not comment on HR issues" is a very very basic principle of good management, which can lay you open to legal troubles if you breach it to sound off to the media about how hard you are.
December 1, 2025 at 7:31 PM
It is. Not always (or often) well, but it is on the English Lang GCSE. Of course, that doesn't help people who are in their 60s to understand it.
December 1, 2025 at 7:27 PM
There is massive public investment going into the Ox/Cam Arc, which is exactly the sort of thing Reform will have to cancel day one to make their tax cuts. I think it would be criminally negligent for a VC NOT to meet with the probable next Government about such issues. Yes, even that one.
