Sarkonak has been posting for days about it, specifically targeting assistant professor Florence Ashley.
A Tweet from National Post writer Jamie Sarkonak. "This person, who teaches a mandatory criminal law class at the University of Alberta, is implying that Kirk was a Nazi. This is the "be gay, do crime" trans prof who writes about "epistemic violence" and hopes for revolution." Sarkonak quotes assistant professor Florence Ashley, who herself in a quote-reply to Ezra Klein's "Charlie Kirk Was Practicing Politics the Right Way" article wrote "You do not, in fact, ever have to hand it to the Nazis. I utterly do not care for any 'virtues' that someone may perceive in them."

Voice of the Oppressed, a group in Calgary that has organized previous demonstrations against the genocide in Palestine and other forms of imperialist violence in the Middle East, say they will be leading a demonstration against war with Iran at Calgary city hall tomorrow.

The Conservative MP for Battle River-Crowfoot, just re-elected a couple of months ago, is stepping down in order to trigger a by-election that Pierre Poilievre can run in.

Haven't found a Bluesky post of this yet, so here's Gurpreet Sahota over on the bad website—a large convoy of Sikh Canadians are protesting the invitation of Narendra Modi, the Indian Prime Minister, to the G7. Modi's anti-Sikh and anti-Muslim politics in India are criticized by many as fascist.

By cutting services away from students with disabilities, the ministerial orders reduced pressure on the school boards to meet the demands of the strikes. CUPE Alberta, which represents the striking workers, applauded today's injunction. Statement today over on Twitter:

Edmonton Public is bringing in scabs to cover the work of striking education support workers, says CUPE
A media release from CUPE Alberta: While the province continues to ignore the crisis in Alberta classrooms, Edmonton Public Schools is bringing substitute teachers into classrooms to handle the extra work normally done by education support staff. Support workers are on day three of a strike at the school district. CUPE 3550 President Mandy Lamoureux says the board is paying $230 per day per teacher, considerably more than the wage being asked for by support workers in the strike. “While the Alberta government tells support staff to be happy with poverty level wages, there’s apparently enough money to cover extra teachers’ salaries,” said Lamouruex. “They should be talking to us about ways to solve the real, long-term problems in Alberta classrooms.” Lamoureux said the average education support worker in Alberta makes just $34,500, with Educational Assistants averaging even less at $26,400. Support workers have not had wage increases in ten years, a period of time in which inflation was at 30%. “The best way to solve the crisis in the classrooms isn’t to scramble and hire a few substitute teachers,” said Lamoureux. “The best way to solve the crisis in the classrooms is to solve the underfunding problem, the low wage problem, and the recruitment problem.”

The high salaries can be confirmed in the latest publicly available information. A letter sent to city council from the Edmonton Police Commission to city council on April 18, 2024 shows the salary breakdown data from 2021.
60 people pulled in more than $14 million in salary.

An update on this: YEGWave is disputing the allegations—and also thinks you're bad people for not liking all the racism in their comments section.
"Hello everyone, As some of you may have noticed, certain defamatory posts have been circulating on social media, falsely accusing YEGWAVE of being 'run by bots,' 'operated by Russia,' and spreading additional false information. First and foremost, we want to clarify that these comments are baseless. YEGWAVE is, and always has been, a Canadian entity, based and run out of Edmonton, Alberta. We strongly believe that without our deep understanding of our city and culture, the page would not be what it is today. Our account has worked with both major local businesses as well as our police services to assist them to the best of our ability. We are proud Edmontonians, Albertans, and most of all, Canadians. The screenshot circulating that claims our account is run in Russia, along with the comments that suggest we "quickly hid it" are unequivocally false. Our location has remained as it currently displays for years, and the reason it has appeared that way is due to the use of a location spoofer and a VPN, which we utilize to protect our privacy. On this matter, there have been conversations surrounding our motivations for preserving our anonymity. There are a number of reasons, the most prominent being personal safety. In the early days of our account, we received a number of threats, and as the account has grown, so too have these threats, both in number and severity.
