RIP, Rick Buckler of The Jam. Most of my drummer influences were from the British Isles, and Rick was among them. He had finesse, as seen in his ability to play clean rolls on loose snare heads for a fuller sound, but could also deliver bombastic fills on concert toms decorated with the Union Jack.

I’ve been rewatching this show much lately. Sadly, as time passes, I see this Roddenberry realm of sci-fi grow more fictional than Star Wars, as the latter still holds a dog-eat-dog undercurrent that is so familiar. I used to like the grit of a desolate off-world colony. Now, not so much.
