Flaky (pie crusts only) and sturdy (in pie crusts and in life)
Looked lovely the other night, too, when we got this shot from the soccer fields right next to the awesome affordable housing development being built.

I don’t have a thread of books I’ve read this year, but I recently finished this book and really encourage people to read it. It made me think and has stayed with me, a lot.

Cake 3 is husband’s birthday cake - cheesecake with ginger snap crust and mango topping. Paired well with beers and friends. Thank you for helping us eat it.

Nephew’s birthday tres leches is done. It’s not as photogenic, but it’s one of the best cakes. (Normally would have some fruit garnish but not this time since the cake has to travel).

Ok verdict is in and the mango mousse cake set up and was a hit with birthday kid. (Also she got a smartwatch so those screams in the West End were her opening her present).

Be still my High Plains heart. My youngest, very east coast kid, somehow decided she wanted to try to make runzas (which I don’t think she’s ever even had). They turned out pretty good!

I heard this comment on a podcast today & it so perfectly put words to the anxiety I feel but have difficulty expressing about raising a middle class kid & especially why it feels so stressful to think about them growing up accustomed to seeing other kids with even more means.

Several years ago we had to cut down our magnolia tree to replace our main line. We planted a little peach tree. Finally, this year, for the first time, we got enough peaches to make a pie. We got a lot of peaches actually. Pretty happy with how the pie turned out.

This is a child who can’t play with friends while she gets over being sick but she’s well enough to be active. When we have protected bike lanes she is off screens and being independent and active and having a ball.

A weekend of graduation celebrations and reunion bakes.

Not pictured: the tres leches cake nephew and various assorted teenagers inhaled before I could get a picture.

Plopped on a curb to have some bike to work day pit stop snacks, looked up and saw some familiar faces.

Amazing what can happen when you bike commute!

My #BikeToWorkDay commute was a little different and longer today but well worth it.

Those pit stop snacks are extra appreciated today

OMG we did it and then some!!! Thank you to everyone who donated. This is far and away the most we have ever raised and I’m pretty sure the most donors.

Thank you for the solidarity and love for our PHK8 community!

Committed to making pie for Christmas Eve gathering before we pivoted from lunch to brunch that included waffles. But, you can still have pie even when the meal includes effectively a dessert as a main dish. I want you to know you can still always have pie anyway. In this Christmas essay I will
