A study recently published in Nature Communications reveals that phages in the honey bee gut don’t just coexist with bacteria; they reflect them. When bacterial diversity rises, so does viral diversity, forming a near-perfect microbial mirror. www.thephage.xyz/2025/11/05/b...

In their recently published study, researchers reported that the dye caused changes in the phage's structure, particularly in its tail and protective shell. Upon microscopy, phages appeared damaged, and their genetic material had leaked out.

Mirror bacteria are a fascinating yet deeply concerning concept emerging from synthetic biology. These organisms are designed to be built entirely from reversed biological molecules, opposite to the natural building blocks of life.

One of the most intriguing findings of the study is that infected phytoplankton begin releasing chemical cues soon after they are infected by phages. These cues act as a beacon, drawing other bacteria towards the infected cells long before they die.
